Basement Flooding Is the Most Common Call We Get
Older New England homes sit on fieldstone and poured foundations that let groundwater in when the water table rises, and finished basements turn a wet floor into a real loss. Spring thaw, nor'easters, heavy summer rain, and failed sump pumps all end the same way: water where it should not be, and a clock running on mold.
RestorePro has been cleaning up flooded basements across Eastern Massachusetts since 1997. Our IICRC-certified technicians extract the water, remove what cannot be saved, dry the structure with commercial air movers and dehumidifiers, and sanitize the space so it does not smell like a flood six months later.
Basement Flooding We Clean Up
- Sump pump failures — Power outages and worn pumps during the storms that need them most.
- Groundwater and foundation seepage — Water coming through walls, floor cracks, and the cove joint.
- Storm and surface water — Window wells, bulkheads, and grading that sends rain toward the house.
- Burst pipes and water heaters — Fresh water that still soaks carpet, drywall, and stored belongings.
- Sewer backups — Category 3 black water. Handled under our sewage cleanup protocol with full protective gear and disposal.
- Finished basements — Carpet, pad, drywall, trim, and furniture: dried where possible, removed and rebuilt where not.
- Contents — Pack-out, drying, and documentation of stored belongings for your claim.
What To Do Right Now
Safety first. A flooded basement can be an electrical hazard.
- Do not enter standing water if the power is on. Cut the breaker from a dry location or wait for us.
- If the source is a pipe or appliance, shut off the main water valve.
- Move what you can lift to a dry floor: boxes, electronics, documents, furniture.
- Take photos and a short video before anything is moved or pumped.
- Open bulkhead and basement windows for airflow if the weather allows.
- Call your insurance company to open a claim. We can talk to the adjuster directly.
What not to do
- Do not use a household shop vac or extension cords in standing water.
- Do not run the furnace or boiler if water reached it. Have it inspected first.
- Do not set wet cardboard boxes on carpet. Get them off the floor.
- Do not wait a day to see if it dries on its own. It does not, and mold starts within 24 to 48 hours.

Flooded Basement FAQ
How fast can you pump out my basement?
We answer 24/7 and dispatch the closest crew right away. Across Eastern Massachusetts our trucks are on the road in under an hour. Extraction starts as soon as the crew is on site and the space is safe to enter.
Is basement flooding covered by insurance?
It depends on the cause and your policy. Sudden events like a burst pipe or failed water heater are usually covered. Groundwater and surface flooding often need separate flood coverage, and sump pump failures may need a rider. We document the cause and work with your adjuster either way.
Can my finished basement be saved?
Carpet pad and wet drywall usually have to go. Carpet, framing, subfloor, and many contents can often be dried and saved if we get there fast. We tell you what can be saved after the inspection, not after the bill.
What if the water is from a sewer backup?
That is category 3 black water and it is a health hazard. We handle it under our sewage cleanup protocol: protective gear, removal of contaminated porous materials, disinfection, and documented disposal.
How do I keep it from happening again?
After the cleanup we point out what we saw: a tired sump pump, no battery backup, grading that slopes toward the house, a bulkhead that leaks. Fixing those is far cheaper than the next cleanup.
Do you rebuild after the cleanup?
Yes. RestorePro holds Massachusetts construction supervisor licenses. The crew that dries your basement is the same company that puts the drywall, trim, and flooring back.
